Mercedes finally showed the first images of what will
be the next GT3 representative of the three-pointed star manufacturer, the AMG GT3.
The move to
a new car comes in time, as new manufacturers are entering in the GT3 market, as in the case of Lexus, as well established GT3 rivals that
are changing models, as in the cases of McLaren
and Lamborghini, and Mercedes’ home
rivals BMW, Porsche and Audi. The
advent of a new car is good for Mercedes too, as the SLS AMG GT3 is going to its fifth year of racing, having competed
in the most diverse championships around the world, so it’s a proper time for
change.
The AMG GT3
carries from the SLS AMG GT3 the brutal 6.3 liter V8 engine, although in a
revised form compared to its predecessor. Weight saving and a revised
suspension are the other innovations behind the new model. In terms of design,
it still resembles the SLS, but has its own surprises, like the hood or the
vintage-style front grille.
The AMG GT3
will make its debut this year, probably in the VLN or in the Nürburgring 24
Hours. After that, the car will be available to its large customer base,
formed mainly by Erebus Motorsport, ROWE Racing, Black Falcon, Gainer, Fortec
Motorsport, as well as many other teams.
