In a
ceremony realized this Monday (16) at Stockholm,
Volkswagen Sweden announced its plans for the 2015 season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, in an effort that will include four Polo RX
Supercar models, spread between two teams: Marklund Motorsport and Kristofferson
Motorsport.
Marklund
Motorsport, runner-up in the 2014 teams’ standings, will count with the
services of 2014 season runner-up driver Toomas
Heikkinen and Per-Gunnar Andersson. From Kristofferson Motorsports’ side, the
selected drivers are Johan Kristoffersson
and Tord Linnerud.
Topi Heikkinen
won the World RX of Belgium event at
Mettet last year, and lost the title to Petter Solberg by 46 points. PG
Andersson isn’t that new to the World RX surroundings, as he finished 13th
at the Italia RX and the Turkey RX events.
Kristoffersson
did some races in the 2014 season too, with a podium in four races, as he
finished third in Belgium, behind Heikkinen and fellow countryman Timmy Hansen. Linnerud jumps to
Volkswagen after a part-time campaign with a Helmia Motorsport Renault Clio
last year, achieving a 12th place best finish at World RX of Sweden.
Two Polos
are also expected to be full time on the European
Rallycross Championship. The extra Polo from Marklund Motorsport will be
driven by Tommy Rustad, and the
Kristofferson MS one will be driven by Ole
Christian Veiby, meaning that some European rounds of the 2015 World RX
season will have six Polos on track.
