Two of the
more successful GT3 championships
join forces, as Pirelli World Challenge
and the Blancpain GT Series
announced a collaboration agreement that will start this year, helping both
series to promote themselves.
In fact, a
part of this collaboration was already stated, as the best GT teams in PWC will
cross the world to race in the Baku World Challenge this year. But now, other
important points of the agreement were announced.
Blancpain Sprint Series will visit the Circuit of the
Americas next year, as both categories will share the same track on the same
weekend. Blancpain GT teams will be invited to race at the Streets of St.
Petersburg PWC round in 2016, while the American GT teams will be expected to
race at the Italian Blancpain Sprint round too.
Step into
American soil was one of the wishes of SRO
supremo StephaneRatel, and since
PWC started accepting full FIA GT3-spec cars last year, an influx of European
drivers and teams started racing in the series and being extremely competitive
right away, as in the example of the wins of Olivier Beretta and Kevin
Estre at Austin this year, as well the strong
performances of Blancpain Racing’s Nick
Catsburg. The other side of the story is that PWC regulars of DragonSpeed will make a full-time
appearance in the Blancpain Endurance
Series, and already tested with other competitors at Paul Ricard last week.
