GMB Motorsport confirms an Aston Martin for GTWC Europe

The 2024 FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe season will feature the sight that was pretty common stuff in the FIA World Endurance Championship but with different entities involved, as an all-Danish effort by GMB Motorsport will appear in the grid to represent the Aston Martin camp.

Usually a thing from Young Driver AMR before they start diversifying the lineups and eventually leave the FIA WEC, the Dane Train became some sort of a folkloric figure in the championship that would still win races in the process. GMB Motorsport brings back the association between Denmark and Aston Martin after two years with Honda and their NSX GT3 in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, which gives them valuable experience for their GTWC Europe debut.

In between their Honda programs, GMB Motorsport has a previous relationship with Aston Martin as the team had a rocky debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Vantage GTE, with pace enough to pester the frontrunners of the now defunct LMGTE-Am class that ended with an early collision, while the rest of the year in the European Le Mans Series’ LMGTE class could be treated as a learning experience.

All three drivers selected for the lineup aren’t jumping out of nowhere, as Gustav Birch, Simon Birch and Kasper H. Jensen already have experience with the team in all GT programs they were involved, but they will need some chemistry as they barely raced together as an unit while also having to get used to the new Vantage GT3 and its dynamics.

GMB Motorsport boosts the count of Aston Martin squads in GTWC Europe that will feature some surprising names, as ComToYou Racing announced the change to the British manufacturer from their Audi program while Walkenhorst Motorsport announced at the end of 2023 that would be leaving BMW to race the new Vantage.
