Motorcar Sigma triumphs in Saturday race at Goiânia

The weekend of Império Endurance Brasil at Goiânia ended with the second race on a hot Saturday (23) afternoon, but with the difference that those who were saving equipment on Friday could loosen up the ropes and go with less worries, and this allowed the No. 444 Motorcar Sigma P1 G5 to do a recovery race for the win, as Vitor Genz unlapped the car and Vicente Orige finished the job in a mix of luck, strategy and excellent pace in the car that also had Luiz Bonatti at the wheel.

The No. 28 JLM AJR kept the initial lead, but after defending the position from the No. 444 Motorcar Sigma, it was passed by the No. 2 Tech Force Sigma. The Sigma P1s were keeping the top places but the Ligier JS P320s were approaching quickly, with the No. 9 AMattheis entry rising to third before the first pit window.

After the Safety Car period that opened the second hour, the No. 11 Motorcar Sigma found lots of pace and took the lead, which also brought the No. 9 to second place while the No. 117 BTZ Ligier was brought to third. The problems came in the second window, when the right front suspension collapsed in the No. 9, which allowed the No. 117 to go to second and the No. 99 RSports AJR to be in third. Emilio Padron was pushing hard to keep the No. 11 out of the radar of the No. 117, but a Safety Car period right before the start of the final hour neutralized the gap.

If things couldn’t get worse for Padron, the other two Sigma P1s were closing down on his fight with Gaetano di Mauro, and with swift moves the No. 117 took over first place and left the No. 11 for the chasing pack right behind them. Vitor Genz made no ceremony to pass Padron for second place, and the No. 444 was clocking similar lap times with the No. 117, if not faster.

The final stop had the No. 117 changing the order of the tires already fitted while the No. 444 and the No. 11 had new tires for the final 30 minutes, with Vicente Orige and Arthur Gama joining in to bring the cars home, with the No. 11 getting the top spot again, only to lose the place to the No. 444 as Gama got stuck behind the traffic.

The No. 444 Motorcar Sigma was in total control with better pace, and with the No. 11 suffering a left rear puncture in the final minute, Vicente Orige just had to bring it home in the safest way possible, as not even the second placed No. 117 BTZ Ligier would pose a threat.

The No. 16 Blau McLaren had the No. 55 Stuttgart Porsche in full pursuit mode, but Allam Khodair and Marcelo Hahn had a miraculously faultless race in the GT3 class. In the GT4 class there was no change at top of the table as the No. 31 AutLog Mercedes gave no chance to the opposition in any moment.

The action resumes on 21 October, as round 6 will be held as the Cascavel de Ouro race at the Autódromo Zilmar Beux.
