Sigma at work in the new MC Tubarão prototype

The time for a hiatus is over as the 2021 season is just a thing of the past for MC Tubarão, and while the P3 class title in Império Endurance Brasil was highly celebrated, the attention now is in the new P1 challenger that was promised last year, and this is where Sigma Engenharia joins in to make sure that Carlos and Tiel Andrade are ready for the 2022 season in full time along with the gang.

MC Tubarão became famous in the Brazilian endurance scene by working on their own creations, with the MC Tubarão IX being their last competitive project, and to catch up with a P1 class that was getting faster and faster, it became a customer of the JLM Racing AJR in 2020, which gave a hard fought win at Interlagos that year. With some highs and lows that year, the team decided into going back to their hands-on approach, keeping a P3 class program in 2021 while the plans for the new prototype were announced, but then again, the strength of the class grid was a point to be considered.

This is where Sigma Engenharia joins in, as their Sigma P1 hit the third generation in 2021, and with a more orthodox approach, their customer FTR Motorsports finally aligned a competitive car compared to its predecessors, which scored two class podiums with one of them being an overall one too.

While a fourth generation of the Sigma P1 has already had its competitive debut with a win at the Mil Milhas Brasil, the firm will still be busy as they will be in charge of this MC Tubarão special, which at the moment only has a rough construction of the chassis ready. According to the render revealed, the new prototype will be a mix of Sigma’s ideas and MC Tubarão’s, with it being mostly a Sigma P1 while going with an open top and a Halo, which will be a first in the prototype side of Sigma’s activities.

Motorization is also set to go in an uncommon route, given the history of the two companies, as the Chevrolet LS3 V8 won’t be in scene as a four cylinder Ford Duratec engine will be in place for the new creation.

With the published render giving a rough idea rather than being the final decision, it isn’t confirmed if it will incorporate ideas from the Gen4 Sigma and if it will feature a drag reduction system, with their system being featured not only in their creations but also in the Ginetta G57-P2s that are in Brazil.

Further details will come later including driver lineups, with tests set to happen just before the official debut at Goiânia on 26 March.
