ORECA named as responsible for new Ferrari GT3

If the staff from ORECA couldn’t be busy enough with the projects they already have in progress, the French company gets another one to the list, and a pretty important one as they will be responsible for building and assembling the new Ferrari GT3 machine.

It is rumoured that the machine in question would be based on the new 296 model, meaning the end of an era as Michelotto departs from the production of Ferrari GT cars, which has the 488 GT3 Evo from 2020 as its latest creation, following the trend from other manufacturers that opted for updates instead of new projects.

ORECA itself doesn’t get directly involved with GT racing since the GTS class days, with their Viper GTS-R and Saleen S7R being popular models, but this involvement was solely as a team, with Hughes du Chaunac moving the company to prototype racing afterwards. Despite the fact that prototypes have the dorsal spine of ORECA’s activities, they also have some side projects, such as the engines for Super TC2000 in Argentina and of the Peugeot 208 WRX from the Hansen World RX Team, and both links have quite a long time.

Another thing helping in the new relationship is that ORECA is a known specialist in customer racing, with the LMP1, DPi, LMP2, LMP3 and LMPC classes having their products and assistance, and with Ferrari’s GT programs relying heavily on customer support, both get benefits from this link.

The design of the new car is being conducted at Maranello, and a final build will hit the track for the first test on the initial semester of 2022.
