Kristoffersson joins EKS JC for 2021 World RX effort

Fierce rivals on track a few years back, Johan Kristoffersson and EKS JC join forces in what's expected to be the most powerful combo of the 2021 FIA World Rallycross Championship grid.

The announcement came this Tuesday (22) via EKS social channels, after featuring a video with a mystery driver in a black Red Bull sponsored Audi S1 EKS RX, which will be the machine that the Swede will drive this season, breaking his sequence driving the Volkswagen Polo GTi RX since his introduction to the World RX.

Currently, Kristoffersson is splitting his schedule between dominant runs in the RallyX Nordic and Extreme E, but his World RX participation still had a question mark on it, be it to wait for the transition to electric power or due to budget constraints, with the latter almost hitting his nordic effort.

The current-spec S1 RX was the machine that Kristoffersson beat for his third World RX title, as Mattias Ekström, EKS co-owner, was not fast, but also smart enough to beat Kristoffersson in a number of occasions, even if the outcome was a runner-up place, and this adds a lot of weight to the effort.

Also, this will be a return to a two car team for Kristoffersson since 2018, when he conquered his second title, having the newcomer Enzo Ide as his team mate, who is still trying to get the grip of a rallycross supercar, which is why the Belgian also joined the RallyX Nordic this year.

According to Ekström, the idea is to go after both the Drivers and the Teams titles.
