FIA WEC 2024 is complete in Le Mans Ultimate

There was a chunk of content left to wrap up Le Mans Ultimate’s initial coverage, which means both the 2023 and 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship seasons, and this week, Studio 397 and Motorsport Games brought the final pieces in the fifth DLC for the sim racing title, with two vehicles and the only track left of the WEC calendar.

Lusail
is the FIA WEC season opener since 2024 with their 1812km race, but at the time the virtual circuit wasn’t ready, with Interlagos and COTA coming before. Known due to its MotoGP races, the Formula 1 grand prix, but being the host of the short lived GP Masters series way before them, Lusail never changed the layout from its majority of middle speed corners with brief moments of acceleration and a few hairpins, with most of the circuit being done in either third or fourth gear.

Being adapted to FIM and FIA Grade 1 specifications, Lusail not only is as flat as Sakhir, for example, but also offers large kerbs and a decent amount of runoff areas, with sandpits mounted outside some kerbs to curb track limit abuse, but even with it, you can monster some kerbs and go way outside the limit determined of two wheels between the white lines.

Along the grand prix layout, Lusail is also presented with a short layout, which probably has no series making use of it.

The newest car of the pack is the Lamborghini Huracán LMGT3 EVO2, which has the Lamborghini Huracán STO as the base road car, and consequently, a lot of expertise from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo embarked into GT3 territory. While competent at times, it wasn’t in a level that either Iron Lynx and Iron Dames desired, so the car saw only one season in the LMGT3 class as Iron Lynx cut all ties with Lamborghini, signing with Mercedes for 2025, while the Iron Dames joined forces with Manthey Racing, and consequently with Porsche.

On the other side, the Naturally Aspirated Pack DLC also features the oldest GT3 car of the current grid, as the Lexus RC F LMGT3 was brought in due to the company’s ties with Toyota and plans of a future car to replace the model from 2017, and these plans were enough to lure Akkodis-ASP out of its leading position in the Mercedes GT3 customer team base, which was one of the longest relationships between team and manufacturer in the class. Although showing its age, since it was brought in with the final update of the Nissan GT-R GT3, for example, the RC F had some updates along the way and is a very successful machine in the IMSA GTD class, one of the last international markets of the race model.

Thanks to a more precise Balance of Performance, a the two cars and some newer vehicles can stay within a short gap in terms of lap times, although they retain their unique driving characteristics.

While the DLC needs to be acquired via the Steam store, some updates to the multiplayer side of things were immediately available, which includes custom liveries and team management at the forefront of it all. At the moment this is available for multiplayer only and you need to be a Racecontrol subscriber, but custom liveries will eventually make their way to the single player modes.

Unlike other simulators and even RFactor2, Le Mans Ultimate’s team management establishes roles for everybody within the team, such as manager, who controls all aspects of the team, engineer, who is responsible for pit strategies and setup, as well the drivers. Team members can even be assigned to specific events, and in case of problems that force a driver to disconnect from the session, another team member can take the car from the team garage.

There are further changes in this june update, described by the changelog released by Motorsport Games.
