Suzuka 10 Hours cancelled again

And for the second year straight, the Intercontinental GT Challenge will not travel to Japan to contest the Suzuka 10 Hours,  though SRO has an alternative or two to cover for the missing race.

It is understood that the travel restrictions inside and outside Japan were the main reason for Mobilityland, the company behind the Suzuka 10 Hours, to cancel the event that was set for 22 August.

This was almost the same reason for the cancellation of last year's edition, as Japan is keeping its strict policy to contain the advance of the COVID-19 outbreak, and following the schedule would be a huge problem for foreign drivers and staff to deal with the rest of the calendar. This set the situation to call off the GT World Challenge Asia last year, as China and Malaysia followed Japan's path.

Instead of trying an alternative plan in the Far East or in Southeast Asia, SRO is actually looking at the Middle East to fill the gap, with all possibilities being considered.

Asian Le Mans Series held its 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates, as Dubai and Abu Dhabi are top grade facilities in the country, and Sakhir, in Bahrain, held the first FIA GT Nations Cup, which puts it as a frontrunner.

On the outside there's also the Doha circuit that hosts MotoGP and had a WTCC round, as well the not so known Kuwait Motor Town, which are quality venues on the same level as the UAE circuits.

Once the discussions about the new host go forward, a date for the race will be announced.
