SRO moves Kyalami 9 Hours to December

The whole SRO calendar is still a puzzle that needs to be sorted by the French organization, and the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli was one of its last pieces to be moved, at least until the confirmation that the Worldwide series will stick to its four race calendar in 2020, without any additions, while also moving the finale at Kyalami to the end of the year.

The logistical part of the game is the big reason for the date rescheduling, as the Paul Ricard 1000 and the Test Day for the 24 Hours of Spa would be in the way of the schedule to send the cars to South Africa, given the Kyalami 9 Hours remained scheduled for 21st November, so with the race now set for 12th December, giving more time to work on the logistical side, as the grid will depend almost entirely of overseas teams.

With the 2021 IGTC season set to start with the Bathurst 12 Hour on 7th February, it will help in direct travel from South Africa to Australia, though the problem would be Australia’s possibility to open the borders for international arrivals next year, which goes more to the negative side right now according to recent statements from the country’s Prime Minister.

The calendar decisions, not only in the IGTC front but also in the GT World Challenge front, left no possibility for an Asian round to be included this year, meaning that there will be no substitute event to the cancelled Suzuka 10 Hours, as Japan closed its borders for international travel.

The other remaining dates stay as scheduled, with the next race being the Indianapolis 8 Hour on 4th October, while the 24 Hours of Spa follows it on 24th and 25th October.
