Endurance Brasil confirms August start

After what is a four month delay, the 2020 season of Império Endurance Brasil is set to start, and while August will start as a busy month for sure, there are a lot of questions to be answered since only the first race is confirmed, which will bring most of the usual mix with some new machines and faces.

The venue where the series will kick off the season will be Interlagos, and 1st August is the date, but as it is the case with all other sport events returning to action in Brazil, the race will be held on closed doors with only race related staff being allowed to take part of it.

In fact, Interlagos was expected to receive the Endurance Brasil cars way before the new date, as a collective pre-season test was set to happen on 7th March, but it was cancelled as worries regarding the COVID-19 pandemic started to rise, which also led to the postponement of the season, which was set to be held at Curitiba on 4th April, and was followed by postponements of the next two rounds, set for Velopark and Goiânia in May and July.

Despite the lack of a collective pre-season test session as the idea was totally abandoned, multiple teams took advantage of a short period of relaxing in the activity restriction rules to test not only the cars but also prospect drivers, like as it was at Curitiba, where Team Ginetta Brasil, Stillux Racing, newcomer AutLog Racing and KIA Power Imports. Other teams like NAFTA Motorsports, JLM Racing, Sul Racing, MC Tubarão and R-Mattheis Motorsport did private tests at Tarumã, Velopark and at the brand new Autódromo Potenza.

Along other new things to be expected this season, the highlights are the new 991.2-spec Porsche 911 GT3R from Stuttgart Motorsport, the McLaren 570S GT4 from AutLog Racing and the TMC M1 prototype concept from Tarso Marques.

The Interlagos opener will follow the usual four hour race format that’s used in most races and will start at 11:30 A.M. local time (2:30 P.M. GMT) and will be broadcasted in the SPORTV channel on television and live streamed in the Endurance Brasil YouTube channel.
