No electrics in World RX until 2022

The recent developments were in real favor of the inclusion of electric powered cars in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, but in face of the economic challenges coming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the course of action was changed for implementation in 2022.

In fact, the decision follows a series of changes made by other championships which were aiming for immediate changes in their technical packages, being them FIA-sanctioned or not, and the World RX plan revision was approved by the World Motor Sport Council after a meeting between the promoter IMG with the suppliers Kreisel Energy and GCK Energy, with the decision being justified by the fact that the goal is to implement alternative energy in a cost-effective reality.

The inclusion of electric cars in 2022 will be made alongside the petrol powered cars, though in 2021 Projekt E will be around, with the STARD-built cars acting as the prime electric series, while in 2022 it will become a second tier electric series in the rallycross ladder. The new FIA eRX Junior Championship, which will act as the initial step in rallycross from the electric side, stick to the plan of implementation in 2021.

The 2020 World RX grid is more than set, with most of the 2019 class being present, though the calendar already suffered a number of revisions due to postponements caused by the pandemic and the measures to reduce its spread, with the Catalunya RX, the Montalegre RX and the Hell RX waiting for new dates, while the Spa RX was already moved from mid-May to October 4th.
