Porsche teams set their programs for GT World Challenge Europe

With a bit more than a month to go until the start of the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS season, there are some big teams that are presenting their efforts, which certainly means that the grid will be way bigger than what we have at the current point.

The Porsche camp saw two of its top teams confirm their efforts this week, with UAE-based GPX Racing and Italy’s Dinamic Motorsport reaffirming their commitment with the Stuttgart manufacturer, though with revised lineups to have a shot for overall honors while also having a look at the other classes.

GPX Racing has everything to appear as a Porsche top team, having conquered the 24 Hours of Spa last year with Richard Lietz, Michael Christensen and a stellar Kévin Estre, though the remainder of the Endurance Cup season was with a Silver Cup effort. In 2020, the team moves to Overall, and to increase their chances, they will go with a pair of Porsche 911 GT3Rs.

Lineups are already defined with none of the Spa winners being featured, as one car will have Romain Dumas, Dennis Olsen and Thomas Preining, while the other one comes with Patrick Pilet, Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell. All drivers except Preining were moved from fellow Porsche squad ROWE Racing, with only Pilet being a one-off driver last year.

Despite most of Preining’s commitments being related to the LMGTE class, he has his fair share of GT3 racing, coming from a full season in ADAC GT Masters and being part of the Porsche roster in the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli.

As for Dinamic Motorsport, the team brings a three car armada, with one entry for the Overall class, another for the Silver Cup and the third one for the Pro-Am Cup.

In the Overall entry, Sven Müller jumps in from ROWE Racing too, while Matteo Cairolli comes from ADAC GT Masters and like Preining, the Italian has to manage his time in GT3s with the LMGTE racing commitments, and completing the trio is Christian Engelhardt, who leaves a long time relationship with Lamborghini and Grässer Racing, which resulted in title in 2017, to return to the Porsche camp.

The Silver Cup entry will have the only driver staying with the team in Andrea Rizzoli, set to guide newcomer Mikkel Overgaard Pedersen, transitioning from the Porsche Cup to GT3 racing, with a final driver still needing to be announced. While no hints were given, Zaid Ashkanani and Marco Seefried are Silver-rated and have a recent relationship with Dinamic Motorsport, so they are candidates.

The Pro-Am Cup entry features Mauro Calamia, Ivan Jacoma and Roberto Pampanini, as the trio moves from Mercedes to Porsche machinery after spending the 2019 season with Villorba Corse.
