Mirko Bortolotti becomes an Audi Sport driver

One of the most important drivers in the Lamborghini Squadra Corse roster is leaving the Italian manufacturer, although staying within the Volkswagen Auto Group, as Italian Mirko Bortolotti will drive for Audi Sport, starting next year.

Bortolotti was a Squadra Corse driver since 2014, starting in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series to then step into GT3 competition, and despite traveling and competing all around the World, his main focus being the Blancpain GT Series. There, Bortolotti was an integral part of Grässer Racing Team, being a frontrunner and race winner until the so much awaited Endurance Cup title in 2017.

Joining the Audi Sport roster too in 2020 is Patric Niederhauser, coming from a solid title-winning campaign in the ADAC GT Masters. The Swiss had his initial steps into open wheel and Le Mans Prototype racing before going to the GT scene, initially with Lamborghini and then competing in multiple brands in GT3 and GT4. Along his GT Masters title, his third placed Blancpain GT Series Asia effort in 2018 is another highlight.

Out of these two additions, Audi will keep the same factory driver lineup from 2019, with stars that include Dries Vanthoor, Christopher Mies, Christopher Haase, Markus Winkelhock and Frank Stippler. There aren’t indications of where Bortolotti and Niederhauser will race, though the bet is for them to stay in Europe.
