Heikkinen is back to World RX as Lohéac RX list is revealed

He used to be a regular in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, but after some time out, Toomas Heikkinen is coming for a brief comeback as he will be racing in the next round of the competition, at Lohéac, in France.

The number of supercars that Heikkinen drove before and during the World RX era makes him a valuable driver due to his versatility, and the Hyundai i20 RX from GRX TANECO is the next machine he will add to his list, being the third entry of the team, along with regulars and event winners Niclas Grönholm and Timur Timerzyanov.

The third car from GRX TANECO has been used for partial efforts so it has seen different guys pushing it, with the first of them bein Euro RX reigning champion Reinis Nitiss, though the car Finn Joni Wiman on it in other occasions.

Though is expected from Heikkinen to be competitive, the bar is set higher due to how competitive the Hyundai i20 RX has been during the season. Neither Timerzyanov nor Grönholm missed the semifinals in 2019, and Grönholm only missed a final this year, which currently the Finn in fourth in the standings and the Russian in sixth, with Grönholm’s feat being more impressive considering he missed the Spa RX and Silverstone RX due to recovery from appendicitis.

Even the third car had its moments of glory in 2019, with Wiman being on podium at Spa-Francorchamps and Nitiss being on Höljes’ podium. Wiman’s case even saw him become a points scoring entry at Silverstone in place of Grönholm.

After full season efforts with Marklund Motorsport and EKS RX, Heikkinen raced in two events for MJP Racing in 2018, and for the moment he is dedicating his time to the new Titans-RX Europe championship that the same MJP Racing is managing, with two wins in the season and just behind Kevin Hansen in the standings.

The Lohéac RX will be held on August 31st and will see brother Jonathan and Fabien Pailler come in for a go on home soil, while Kevin Abbring returns with ESMotorsport and their Skoda Fabia RX after missing the Canada round at Trois-Rivières.
