Electric rallycross plans move forward with Projekt E

The idea of including electric cars in rallycross dates from some years ago, and things were moving forward to include manufacturer efforts on it, but the lack of clarification about the time to introduce the new spec made the interested parties go away, meaning that IMG had to come up with a slightly different plan, in which is featured the new Projekt E class.

Initially, Projekt E will be a separate class that will be part of the World RX schedule in selected European events, with STARD taking care of the development of electric technologies, with the aim of preparing the terrain for a full inclusion of electric machinery in World RX, starting in 2021, according to the FIA vision of electric rallycross.

Between rallycross, rally and even TCR, STARD also did some experiments with electric cars in the STARD HIPER MK 1, released some years ago as a multiple purpose car for both rally and rallycross.

The initial plans had a collaboration with Oreca included in terms of powertrain development and manufacturer interest, but due to the regulation changes not being immediate, all manufacturer that had World RX efforts pulled out. In Projekt E though, things seem to be open to more accessible options, as STARD will enter with the REVolution EV powertrain, which promises to deliver supercar levels of power, tagged along with the characteristic EV instant torque and an expected top speed of 240 kph.

The interesting point in Projekt E though is that the REVolution powertrain can be adapted to current supercar chassis and even to new ones to come, and this will be demonstrated by the STARD Fiesta ELECTRX, which will be the first demonstration car to be used to showcase Projekt E, set to be prepared using the 2019 STARD Fiesta ST RX supercar as the base.

Testing of the new cars will start in July, with the presentation being set for September.
