A new Mercedes AMG GT3 is coming

Mercedes can be proud of what they done until this point in the GT3 class, as balance of performance aside, they managed to have plenty of customers for the Mercedes AMG GT3, which are incredibly competitive in a car that was facing the wave of evolution and new models coming in the last two years, but the time for change has to come, so the German manufacturer presented the Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo last weekend at Nürburgring.

The key points in the new AMG GT3 were almost the same that are ruling some of the recent GT3 Evo releases - ergonomic, reliability, aerodynamics and ease of maintenance in order to provide a better service to customer teams that use the AMG GT3 in different places around the World, from international races like the 24 Hours of Spa and Nürburgring or national championships like British GT, Endurance Brasil, Super GT and many others.

The aero received changes to improve cooling in front and to make splitter and wing adjustments quicker, and also the front diffuser and rear apron received visible changes in order to improve downforce and drag. The performance side also sees traction control and ABS being improved, as well some adjustments in the cockpit to improve ease of use, and finally, the new AMG GT3 Evo has a clever Drop Start function to be used in the pit exits, as the engine starts automatically once the car is released from the air jacks, meaning the driver can simply accelerate his way out of the pits without having to worry about a possible stall.

Despite the eye-catching changes, the new AMG GT3 still weighs the same 1,285 kg and its heart is the same 6.3 litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine that powers the current version.

The new AMG GT3 will undergo a testing program this year in order to be ready for customers next year, and current AMG GT3 owner have the option of upgrading to an Evo package. The base price will be about 399 thousand Euros in Sprint spec, with the Drop Start system, the endurance pack and other features being additional items.
