Absolute Racing adds Porsches to the fleet

After a 2018 dedicated only to Audi Sport, Absolute Racing will add an extra manufacturer to the fleet as two examples of the new Porsche 911 GT3R will be with the team for the upcoming season, with a driver already confirmed.

The Audis are still there, though the program that saw four R8s on track will be reduced to two of the R8 LMS Evo cars, while the Porsches fill the other two places. By the way, Absolute Racing fills the void as a high profile Porsche customer team in Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia, as Craft-Bamboo Racing announced the switch from Porsche to Mercedes.

The 991.2 spec 911 GT3R will go for its first year of competition as a properly homologated car in the GT3 class, but before this, the 2018 season was spent competing as VLN and the 24H SERIES were the main destinations of the new machine.

As for Absolute Racing, in recent years the team was trying its way with different machines of the VW Group, with the spell with Bentley being the highlight as it meant an adventure in totally different territory in what’s now the Blancpain GT World Challenge America, though the Bentleys were also used in Asia, and sometimes they were alongside the Audi programs, and the team isn’t that new to Porsche machinery due to the regular presence in the Carrera Cup Asia, though the 911 GT3R behavior is certainly different compared to the 911 GT3 Cup.

Lineups are far from being confirmed as only one driver is confirmed at the moment, being him Yuan Bo, who already drove for Absolute Racing in PCCA and will add some GT3 experience in his resume after three seasons of sports car racing. It’s expected that a Porsche factory driver will be alongside Yuan Bo, with all announcements coming in the next few weeks.
