The FIA World Rallycross Championship will not only change its season opener again, but also will start the season at Abu Dhabi, adding another FIA Grade 1 venue to its schedule, starting right in 2019.
The agreement between IMG, World RX promoter, and the Yas Marina Circuit will be part of a long term deal that will see the standard circuit being combined with a new purpose-built layout, and as it has been the case with recent World RX additions that share the same status, other events will take place along with the World RX action.
The Abu Dhabi RX will be the third different season opener in the World RX history, after the championship started the action at Montalegre and Barcelona, and this will be the first time the championship starts a season outside Europe, as overseas rounds usually come up to the middle or the end of the calendar.
The Abu Dhabi RX will be held on April 6th, with the rest of the 2019 World RX calendar awaiting confirmation.
