No. 63 GRT Lamborghini disqualified from Nürburgring Blancpain GT weekend

What seemed to be a good weekend for Grässer Racing, Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhardt turned turned into bad and then to worse, as their Saturday win turned into a disqualification from the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup event at Nürburgring due to multiple offenses from Engelhardt.

The No. 63 GRT Lamborghini was initially issued a 30 second penalty to its total time as Engelhardt drove his stint with his front head restraint over the shoulder straps of his harness, a security violation that was caught in the TV transmission footage.

Things then get worse as video evidence showed that Engelhardt removed and destroyed the SD card of the of the driver facing cockpit camera after removing his gear before arriving in the pitlane, and the car wasn’t also with an operating onboard safety camera during the whole Race 1, contradicting the regulations.

Due to the mentioned acts of misconduct, the No. 63 car was disqualified from the whole event and will not take part in the Race 2, reducing GRT’s lineup to two Lamborghini Huracán GT3s. Thanks to the Race 1 penalty previously imposed, the No. 63 car duo was already out of the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup title fight and Grässer Racing is already out of the teams title fight too, as it was already crowned to WRT.
