McRae replaces Wilks at LOCO World RX Team

The return to Europe for the FIA World Rallycross Championship also meant at least a change of drivers as the LOCO World RX Team will have a new face behind the wheel of their Volkswagen Polo RX, with a surname that means a lot for the off-road racing world.

Guy Wilks posted on social media on Wednesday that he would relinquish his seat in the Volkswagen Polo RX and wished the best for the newcomer on World RX Alister McRae, just the younger brother of WRC legend Colin McRae.

Wilks jumped into the Polo RX after occasional entries in World RX with JRM and Olsbergs in their Minis of Ford Fiestas, with the 2017 season being intended to be his first full season effort in the championship, but this has been plagued by a string of unfortunate results, with the best of them being a 7th place at Barcelona.

Alister McRae has his fair share of rallying in his records with 75 events as a driver for Subaru, Mitsubishi and Hyundai, but his success is more specifically in Asia, conquering the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship as a factory driver for Proton. He also has a participation in rallycross in a SuperCar Lites machine in the only round of the Extreme Rallycross championship in Australia.

McRae's drive is set to go until the end of the season, starting with the Lohéac RX on September 3rd.
