WTCC on Nordschleife? It's for real!

It seemed like some sort of a joke, but looks like the WTCC guys are serious about that.

Today was announced at Nürburgring, in the middle of the Nürburgring 24h schedule, that WTCC and N24's promoters entered in an agreement that will bring WTCC to Nürburgring for three years, starting 2015.

Running only on the GP-Strecke that is used for F1? No, not that funny. They will take the challenge on 25 kilometers(!) of the famous Nordschleife circuit, as part of the Nürburgring 24 Hours events schedule, what seems like some wish of a Race 07 hardcore player.

The problems start at the regulations matter. Normally, a WTCC race has a 60 kilometer length, which means that the drivers would do just about 3 laps. So, for this event, it will be tried a special change in the sport regulations, to make it a single 120 km race, with one pit-stop.

If everything needed to make this event occur happens as planned, it will mark the return of WTCC to german lands as the last race was held in 2011, in Oschersleben. It will mark the return of a FIA World Championship event to Nordschleife since the 1983 ADAC 1000 km, as part of the World Sportscar Championship, today known as FIA World Endurance Championship.

As the drivers' opinion is also important for the sport, see the reaction of the WTCC drivers as they heard about the new event in the video below.

Please, come quick, 2015!
