Rytkönen absent from Istanbul RX double header

After the situation regarding Hansen World RX Team’s absence and return to the FIA World Rallycross Championship, another team and driver confirms absence with two rounds to go, as Juha Rytkönen and PGRX put everything in the balance and decided to not work on an entry for the Istambul RX double header to defend his win that ended the 2024 season.

A statement from Rytkönen explained that budget constraints and the situation in the standings played a big part to not travel to Türkiye, Sitting in sixth in the standings, Rytkönen showed impressive pace at the KymiRing, but what was a certain podium finish turned into a penalty and a demotion to fifth place due to contact with Niclas Grönholm.

Reviewing the current World RX season, Rytkönen stated that Höljes and KymiRing were the rounds where he had his best performances, but also mentioned that the Balance of Performance was off despite collective tests to ensure parity was there, with the extra weight carried by the internal combustion supercars making them mostly uncompetitive against the electric RX1e machines, which even made Kristoffersson Motorsport change machinery right after the Lousada RX opener.

Another point mentioned was that due to BoP and other matters, Rytkönen was the only supercar amid six electric cars, with Anthony Pelfrene racing only at Lousada RX and Patrick O’Donovan dropping out before the KymiRing RX, with the Team RX Racing driver keeping his British RX commitments with one-off entries in other championships like Rallycross France.

The Istambul RX double header will be held on 20 and 21 September.
