Meunier conquers Mayenne, Jeanney conquers Rallycross France

The penultimate round of the Rallycross France season at Mayenne saw no favorites, as Samuel Peu and Juliean Febreau challenged the regular candidates, but the heavily competitive Final crowned Damien Meunier as the winner, while also confirming Davy Jeanney as the champion with a round to go.

The Qualifying was held almost entirely on bad weather, which turned the track into a greasy mess where the brakes could betray you if applied in a sketchy point. While not every heat, Jonathan Pailler was the dominant force in these conditions, with Julien Febreau and Samuel Peu around Davy Jeanney in the top four.

The track condition improved for the Semifinals, but only in the tarmac, as the loose surface areas were still tricky to navigate. The first one had Peu jump in front of Febreau before the first corner to keep the lead , but Febreau marked Peu wherever he went until Lap 5, when he took the Joker to cover Andrea Benezet and Anthony Paillardon. Peu and Febreau kept the close racing to the finish, and Benezet and Paillardon did the same from third and fourth.

The second Semifinal was presumably the strongest, but Damien Meunier got the advantage and brought Anthony Pefrene with him while Jeanney went off track for a while when he didn’t find grip in the tarmac. Pelfrene, Jonathan Pailler and Simon Ringuet went to the Joker on Lap 3, and this would play on Pelfrene’s favor as he wasn’t that far back Jeanney, who was held by Meunier for a while, with the order being restored on Lap 4. In the Final Lap, Pelfrene went slightly wide and left an opening for Jeanney to take second place, but this would change little for them as the top 3 was far ahead a Simon Ringuet who barely beat Pailler at the line.

In the Final, Febreau outpaced Meunier before the first corner to take the lead while Peu went for an early Joker, getting tangled in the battle between Benezet and Pelfrene for fourth. Meunier and Jeanney trailed Febreau until Lap 3, when Meunier covered from Benezet with the Joker Lap and pushed to stay behind Jeanney and pass him after his Joker Lap.

Jeanney would go to the Joker on Lap 5, eventually falling into third place and opening the door for Meunier to push and close down on Febreau, and on Lap 6, Meunier’s strategy paid off as he was fast enough to cover Febreau after his Joker, leaving him to fight for second with Jeanney while Meunier went straight to the win.
