Martinsson beats Tamm to conquer Älvsbyn on Saturday

Filip Martinsson
came with his Renault Clio RX to Älvsbyn on a mission, and despite the clear absences from the fifth round of the RallyX North season, Martisson still had heavy opposition to face off, narrowly beating KymiRing winner Maiko Tamm for the win.

This round marked the return of Mats Öhman after the end of the 2024 season, and his debut in new machinery, with a Volkswagen Polo KMS 601 RX replacing the Audi S1 EKS RX, and the car change paid dividends as he topped the first heat and got the second time in the second heat, more than enough to just stay behind Ulrik Linnemann in the intermediate standings. Maiko Tamm and Viktor Vranckx had their compromising moments in the Heats 1 and 3, with a disqualification for each driver, throwing them down the order but the positions weren’t representative of their true performance.

Semifinal 1 had Linnemann tripping off the line at the start and opening the door for Filip Martinsson, with Elias Svensson and Vranckx trailing them out. Vranckx actually needed some brute force to go to third place and get out of the clutches of Fraser McConnell, but the battle with Svensson slowed down the Jamaican. Martinsson led to the finish line while Linnemann had to carry over a punctured tire to second place, while Vranckx didn’t have the same luck and conceded the third place to Svensson due to a puncture in his Peugeot 208 WRX.

In the second Semifinal, Öhman had the pole position and exercised the right for the position by going away with it while Oliver Eriksson chased him hard. Eriksson went for the Joker first between the top group, nullifying Casper Jansson’s actions, but a problem in the final lap made Eriksson concede the position to Jansson as he watched Öhman and Tamm get the first two positions.

The Final had Öhman and Martinsson locking horns for first place, with Martinsson taking the top spot while Tamm was second and Linnemann was third while Öhman had the Joker already done and he was on the chase of the top three. Tamm covered position in sequence, with Martinsson and Linnemann the last drivers to Joker, but nothing took Martinsson off his leading position while Tamm saw the victory run away by 0,330 seconds.
