Significant changes form the 2024 World RX calendar

Without any sign of news about a possible entry list for the 2024 FIA World Rallycross Championship season, given the hype that was generated due to battle between electrics and combustion cars being allowed by the regulations, at least it is known now where the competitors will go this year, with some noticeable changes compared to 2023.

The 2024 calendar was revealed this week and confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council in their latest meeting on 28 February, with the competition taking some steps back and returning to less travel while abusing of the double headers, just like RallyX Nordic does. The support competitions will be there as always, with World RX, FIA RX2e, Euro RX1 and Euro RX3 set to visit five venues each, with a date reserved for the support package only and an overseas round exclusive to the World RX.

The commotion generated by the incident filled 2023 season basically axed five events in the transition to 2024, with Hell, Lydden Hill, Estering and Cape Town being absent again while the Hong Kong RX won’t see a repeat for the time being. The remaining three venues, which are Höljes, Montalegre and Mettet, receive the company of Nyirád, which was used for a standalone Euro RX1 even to open the calendar, while a season finale in Australia awaits confirmation of a venue to be held.

Euro RX1 will keep its separated event from the World RX but will move back to France, this time choosing Essay to break apart from the long history of visits to Lohéac. While Nyirád would usually appear in middle to late May, Essay will have its round held in June, with the World RX starting a month later at Höljes.

Nyirád will host the second double header in late July, and Metter keeps a date in August while Montalegre is moved from June to September to host the Euro RX1, FIA RX2e and Euro RX3 season finales while also being the last European round for World RX.

As usual with the overseas rounds where shipping needs to be taken into account, a nearly two month break separates the Australian season finale from the rest of the calendar, which is set for December.

2024 World RX calendar:

9 June - Essay (Euro RX1, FIA RX2e and Euro RX3)
6-7 July - Höljes
27-28 July - Nyirád
17-18 August - Mettet
7-8 September - Montalegre
1 December - Australia TBA
