The World RX show goes on

The European part of the FIA World Rallycross Championship is gone, cut off in half after the events at the Special ONE Racing space at Lydden Hill, and in order to save the rest of the season, Rallycross Promoter and the FIA decided to go for the emergency measure to keep the competition going at the two overseas double headers at Cape Town and Hong Kong by using the ZEROID X1 RX2e cars.

With the investigation still ongoing about the fire that consumed both Lancia Delta EVO-E cars, there wouldn’t be time available to test the RX1e machines safety measures and ship them to South Africa in time to have them there in October, so in order to at least offer events in the overseas rounds, the alternative was to get the batch of ZEROID X1 cars that raced in FIA RX2e and use them as substitutes. To point out the last hour character of the decision, an online voting had to be held by the World Motor Sport Council members to approve it, with the green light being given.

Along with the fact that the FIA RX2e Championship season is already over, which crowned Nils Andersson as champion, there’s also the fact that some of the World RX teams have FIA RX2e squads like Kristoffersson Motorsport and YellowSquad from the Hansens. While the last three events were cancelled, six World RX drivers including five time champion and current leader Johan Kristoffersson had their go at RX2e machinery in competition, with the most recent outing being from CE Dealer Team’s Niclas Grönholm and Klara Andersson at the Estering finale, so most of the field, so most of the field won’t feel lost at the Killarney circuit.

According to Rallycross Promoter, eight drivers are confirmed for the South African event, while the number for Hong Kong is still unconfirmed, which might get bigger as youngsters or local newcomers might have a go in spare cars.

The Cape Town RX will be held on 7 and 8 October, while the visit to Hong Kong is set for 11 and 12 November.
