Audi show decides Queensland weekend of GTWC Australia

While you could name many favorites for the double header at Queensland, the penultimate weekend of FANATEC GT World Challenge Australia went in favor of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, with the No. 75 JAMEC entry winning on Saturday and the No. 65 Shannons entry doing it on Sunday.

Race 1 started with the No. 65 Shannons Audi side by side with the No. 88 Triple Eight Mercedes until Liam Talbot takes the advantage for himself. Although the top two cars were opening some sort of a gap, the straightforward and fast nature of the paperclip wouldn’t allow them any time to relax or make mistakes.

Pit window and time penalties done, the No. 75 JAMEC Audi was leading and the No. 1 EMA Porsche jumped to second with the No. 88 Triple Eight Mercedes at its back wing and the No. 65 Shannons Audi on a close watch in fourth. With Garnet Patterson having to focus on defending from an approaching Jamie Whincup, the gap ahead was just stretching to a point where Max Hofer was safe in his position until the finish, having almost 10 seconds to the No. 1.

The No. 23 KFC MPC Audi was on a straight route to an Am Cup win, while the No. 181 OnlyFans Audi only had to cross the finish line to secure GT3 Trophy honors as the No. 66 Tigani Audi retired with severe front end damage.

For the Race 2 the front row had a Supercars titanic rivalry with Whincup and Tander side by side, with Whincup taking the lead for his No. 88 Triple Eight Mercedes while Max Hofer settled for second as the No. 75 JAMEC Audi prevailed between the door rubbing for second place.

Max Hofer passed most of the first stint trying to find an opening into Whincup’s line, but failed to make a decisive move before delivering the No. 75 to Geoff Emery, and the pit stop extra time simply threw the No. 75 to fifth while the No. 88 was holding the No. 65 Shannons Audi for the lead until the minute 54, when Liam Talbot passed the point at the last braking zone and punted Abu Bakar Ibrahim.

In the end the No. 65 had a 15 second penalty for the contact, but with things changing in favor of the No. 75 JAMEC Audi in the battle for second place, basically Talbot opened 16 seconds of advantage to secure the win and still have some gap to be safe.

The No. 55 Schumacher Audi had no issues this time and secured the Am Cup win with authority as Brad Schumacher was one of the fastest drivers on track, and Renee Gracie completed the GT3 Trophy class sweep in the No. 181 OnlyFans Audi.

There will be lots of time to get set for the season finale at Adelaide streets on 25-26 November, with Talbot leading the Pro-Am Cup title race with his 180 points against the 173 of Emery, while the Shahin/Patterson duo has 158 to position themselves as the outsiders of the fight.

Brad Schumacher has 211 points and leads the Am Cup standings against the 188 of Stoupas and Stokell, with the class battle staying between them. The only class that will show up totally set at Adelaide will be the GT3 Trophy as Renee Gracie’s 200 points beat Paul Lucchitti’s 108 to not be changed with any combination of results.
