Sandy Mitchell tried his best and more to go through Neil Verhagen in the second round of he FANATEC ESports GT Pro season, but at Paul Ricard the driver of the No. 998 ROWE BMW M4 GT3 was solid and comfortable in front, leading from lights to flag with authority despite the close fight.
The hour of racing started with Neil Verhagen having the advantage of the first corner and getting the lead, though Sandy Mitchell wasn’t fond of letting Verhagen go, pressing in as many places as possible before getting attacked by Fabrizio Crestani and barely holding second place.
While the first half of the race entered in a status quo, Verhagen had no reason to drop the pace as Mitche and Crestani were bringing Dries Vanthoor to the party, all on his back wing waiting for a chance to attack. Eventually, Verhagen and Mitchell were on their own in the fight for the lead until 3 minutes to go, when the No. 6 K-PAX Lamborghini lost contact due to a brief mistake that in the end proved to be very costly as the No. 998 ROWE BMW wasn’t threatened again.
ESports GT Pro - Paul Ricard results
Fabrizio Crestani kept the No. 58 GRT Lamborghini in the Silver Cup lead for the whole hour by mixing with the Pro Cup guys, and the same thing worked well for Callum Williams in the No. 30 WRT BMW, with both cases having a Pro Cup car in between them and their nearest threats in the classes.
The No. 32 WRT BMW leads the Pro Cup standings with 6 points while the No. 63 Iron Lynx Lamborghini and the No. 998 ROWE BMW have 5 and the No. 96 Rutronik Porsche shares the fourth position with the No. 6 K-PAX Lamborghini with 4 points.
The No. 157 Winward Mercedes leads the Gold Cup with 9 points while the No. 99 Tresor Audi leads the Silver Cup standings with 8 points.
The next FANATEC ESports GT Pro round will be during the 24 Hours of Spa race week, with the race being held a week before the real race as on-track activities start mid-week as usual.
