Kristoffersson keeps perfect score with Hell RX win

While other drivers in the FIA World Rallycross Championship have their ups and downs through a weekend, Johan Kristoffersson keeps this positive chain of success, racking up flawless performances to win the Hell RX and secure some distance in the lead of the championship.

All four Heats had the same scene being played on repeat - Johan Kristoffersson starts from the inside, makes the most of the advantage on Turn 1 and wins the race to top the timesheet. With him being around two to three seconds faster per Heat than the opposition, the VW BAUHAUS driver cleared the initial stage with a perfect score, while Kevin Hansen and Niclas Grönholm were tied in second due to consistency, even if the PWR RX1e decided on certain moments to not help the Finnish driver.

Initially fourth placed Ole Christian Veiby played the perfect wingman until he invoked the ire of fifth placed Timmy Hansen on Heat 4 due to some risky blocking, which had the Hansen WRXT venting his frustration into Veiby’s Volkswagen Polo RX1e’s bonnet, disqualification for Veiby and a fine for Hansen.

The first Semifinal saw Kristofferson resist a rough challenge from Kevin Hansen, whose plan backfired and left him with a puncture. Due to difficulties for both Hansen and Guerlain Chicherit, Timo Scheider was keeping an impressive second for the Münnich Motorsport SEAT Ibiza RX2e while Sébastien Loeb was approaching in his Lancia Delta Evo-e RX, but no positions were chaged until the line.

Timmy Hansen had mechanical problems that kept him out of the Semifinal 2 grid, so the four car affair had CEDT on fire as Niclas Grönholm was leading Klara Andersson and keeping Veiby and Bergström at bay. Overcut was only chance possible, and Veiby made it work on Lap 4 against Andersson, but Grönholm was too far ahear for it to work, so the Norwegian had to settle for second behind the Finnish, while Andersson kept third place.

At this point, Kristoffersson’s tactic was well known but incredibly hard to beat, and in the Final wasn’t different, although Grönholm was doing his best to trail him and grab an opportunity, but it never went past of trailing during the whole race as Kristoffersson was impeccable as always, keeping Grönholm behind by 1.7 seconds.

Further down the field, Veiby was involved in another contact incident, this time being with Grönholm, which shattered his rear section. After the race, the inspection revealed that Veiby’s Polo RX1e was underweight, which mean a disqualification from the Final for the Norwegian.

Hell RX - Event results

Kristoffersson now has 46 points against 33 from Grönholm while Kevin Hansen has 24 in third, Andersson has 23 in fourth and Veiby has 22 in fifth. Once July arrives, the action is back, with the Magic Weekend at Höljes being the next event on the 2nd.
