Kristoffersson dominates the RallyX Nordic Saturday at Tierp

A rather reduced field moved to the second RallyX Nordic weekend of the 2023 season, and without any hiccups with his Volkswagen Polo RX, Johan Kristoffersson won and convinced by being totally dominant during the whole event.

Qualifying had no surprises, with it mostly being Johan Kristoffersson on the inside line pulling out after taking advantage of the first hairpin and having all of his three wins by something around a second head of Ole Christian Veiby, with Yury Belevskiy and Kevin Eriksson being consistently in third and fourth.

Semifinal 1 saw Kristoffersson on command from the go while Belevskiy followed him and Maiko Tamm just had to stay racing to keep it out of Stefan Kristenson’s strike range. With most cars qualified either for the main Final or the Am Final, no risks were taken until the flag.

Semifinal 2 had a stronger lineup, and Eriksson decided to challenge Veiby to avoid a full VW BAUHAUS front row, but difficulties to navigate the twisty Joker lap complicated things for the Olsbergs MSE driver, as the lost time could’ve been decisive at the run to the finish. Daniel Thorén was running in third when he also made a mistake in the Joker, which left open way for Viktor Vranckx to get third place.

The Am Final saw Kristensson go rough to get the lead by moving Tamm out of the way, but he had a quick Vranckx behind, capable of covering Thorén and Tamm in the Joker and of outpace Kristensson in the next lap, and in his desperation to retake the place, Kristensson binned it, leaving the door open for Vranckx to control the field and see the checkered first.

Only VW BAUHAUS had a two car team for the event and by coincidence it was in the front row in the Final, locking Belevskiy behind them while Eriksson opted for and early Joker along with Vranckx. Belevskiy decided to follow Kristoffersson and the plan backfired on him as Eriksson got P3, but Veiby did worse by almost ramming Kristoffersson over at the Joker merge before the Final lap. Locked behind his team mate, Veiby had nothing to do other than watching Kristoffersson conclude the job and win the race.
