Sigma P1 reaches fifth generation ahead of Endurance Brasil finale

There are two rounds to go for the current
Império Endurance Brasil season to come to a close, but since the new year is almost there, new projects start appearing, like the fifth generation of the Sigma P1 prototype.

Since its creation in 2017, Sigma Engenharia did all and a bit more with their machine, including major engine changes and massive aero modifications from the original, that went from a single gear hybrid concept to a more traditional offering.

For the new machine, the focus was on safety, in special given the worries that the current generation caused, like the crash at Santa Cruz do Sul that saw José Roberto Ribeiro go to the hospital and made MC Tubarão withdraw their model, which is an open top variation of the Sigma P1 G4. A carbon fiber crash box at the front will join impact reducing parts and anti-intrusion plates at the sides. With all the safety measures being of carbon fiber, the car became lighter, and aero improvements will make it nimbler too, which may turn the P1 G5 into a certain contender for wins against the JLM Racing AJR.

The new Sigma P1 G5 will also be available for the P2 class, and while no specific details were revealed if anything will be different from the P1 class offering, at least it will go with different engine options to suit the technical regulation of the class. The class had a single entry for most of the season in the No. 18 FTR MCR Grand-Am, and with an even more populated P1 class, a P2 class offering might work well as an initial step into Endurance Brasil.

Scuderia Chiarelli, which has been running the current car, will move to the new one at the Interlagos double header that will end the 2022 season on 17 and 18 December.
