Marklund replaces Münnich at Nürburgring RX

With most things resolved in the FIA World Rallycross Championship standings, the final round at Nürburgring will see the return of Anton Marklund after conquering the FIA Euro RX1 Championship title, as a stand-in for René Münnich in the AllInkl.com Münnich Motorsport SEAT Ibiza RX1e.

Marklund jumps in due to Münnich having some business commitments during the Nürburgring RX week, which opened the door for Marklund to return to the championship and debut for the German team. He comes out of a season where he fully committed to SET Promotion in a Hyundai i20 RX, taking part of the first two RallyX Nordic rounds before going to his champion effort in Euro RX1, which saw him win three events out of six, being the only driver who won more than an event in the season, while a runner-up finish at Latvia completed the list of podiums.

Unlike most of the field that either had their hands on electric machinery via tests or competitive racing during the World RX off season, Marklund will be in with practically no electric rallycross experience, so his ability to adapt to the new RX1e spec will be one of his challenges during the final weekend of the season.

On the other hand, Münnich Motorsport has been at the rock bottom of the World RX standings, with Münnich being dead last in all rounds but two, with the first Latvia RX event and the first Spa RX event being his highlights where he finished in sixth place. The car has been playing catch up with the field in terms of development, being the latest of the current RX1e field to not only be converted from the internal combustion platform to electric, but also the last one to show up, facing a difficult start, with the remainder of the rounds up to the upcoming finale being dedicated to fight the persistent reliability issues still present.

The Nürburgring RX will be held on 12 November, with a new format expected to be announced during the event week.
