Iron Lynx moves to Lamborghini in 2023

If everybody thought that WRT’s shocking move away from Audi to BMW was massive, here comes another frontrunner in the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe switching allegiances, as Iron Lynx leaves Ferrari to join the Lamborghini roster from 2023 onwards.

The announcement of the switch came at the end of the week as it followed bigger plans for the two entities, just like in WRT’s case, as Iron Lynx will represent Lamborghini in the FIA World Endurance Championship and in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship with an all-new Lamborghini LMDh model, and with the new prototype coming only in 2024, for the moment the GT3 program will keep the same size from the Ferrari days, with two cars for Iron Lynx and the all-female third entry for Iron Dames.

With the program run PREMA Powerteam, a squad with strong ties with Ferrari, Iron Lynx has shown good results for quite a new operation, as not only one of the Pro Cup entries conquered the Paul Ricard 1000 this year, but the Iron Dames machine duly delivered an exemplar Gold Cup winning performance at the 24 Hours of Spa, which is also a race that Iron Lynx dominated overall in 2021, an integral part for the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup Drivers title.

Iron Lynx will inherit the Nos. 19 and 63 from Emil Frey Racing, which means they will keep the pair of Pro Cup cars for 2023, while the No. 83 car from Iron Dames has its class unclear, but probably going to the Silver Cup, which will take the driver lineup structure from the Gold Cup. The No. 63 and No. 83 will also compete in the IMSA WSCC in the GTD Pro and GTD classes.
