Although counting with his luck was part of the deal, Maro Engel was able to end the Galaxy Entertainment Macau GT Cup weekend in incredible fashion, securing victory in the Main Race after resisting the pressure from the Circuito da Guia ace Edoardo Mortara.
In a more well mannered fashion than Saturday, Raffaele Marciello passed Maro Engel for the lead exchanging some door paint until Lisboa, and while the Mercedes were as dominant as in the Qualifying Race, Edoardo Mortara was making sure they wouldn’t simply disappear.
A Safety Car intervention was needed on Lap 3 when the crashed No. 6 Son Veng BMW of Leong Ian Veng stopped on track, but by the surprise of many, Marciello also pulled out at Melco when the pack was en route to catch the Safety Car. By being in a difficult area to be rescued, it took until Lap 7 for the BMW to be removed and for further track clearance.
When the green flag was waved again, Engel had the lead but also had Mortara all over his back wing with Alexandre Imperatori lurking behind them. Mortara tried hard to mount an attack but lost contact once they left Melco, which practically left open way for Engel to confirm his victory.
