Nitro RX Finland event canceled

Amid some good news and good traction from the first round for Nitro Rallycross, a tough decision had to be taken as Nitro Circus opted to cancel the third round of the championship, set to be held at a section of the KymiRing circuit in Finland, which would also end the European section of the competition.

The event was supposed to be held on 27-28 August, and while a exact track layout wasn’t revealed until the announcement of the cancellation, it was at least expected that Nitro RX would use the designed rallycross track that was supposed to make use of sections of the main asphalt track. According to the official statement, the KymiRing construction work is way behind the schedule to make the event viable, so the choice was to cancel the event.

Although this season’s event was canceled, Nitro Circus didn’t close the door entirely to the Finnish circuit, stating that once the KymiRing gets into a complete state, negotiations would be opened again to hold an event there. Curiously, this was also the stance that Dorma took about canceling the MotoGP race scheduled to the KymiRing this July, as the incomplete track state didn’t meet the FIM minimum requirements to hold a race there, and it’s understood that this also reflected on the national motorcycle championship round that was also canceled.

With one round axed during the ongoing 2022-2023 season and the tight schedule that Nitro RX has, taking in consideration the logistics to the North American section that starts in October, no replacement was announced, since any venue that would host a Nitro RX event would need to fit into the same slot reserved for the KymiRing, which makes practically impossible to make the venue adaptation to Nitro RX needs, along with the needed testing.

The championship will resume the current season with the second round at Strängnäs, in Sweden, on 30-31 July, with track work going smoothly to complete the renovation led by Olsbergs MSE supremo Andreas Eriksson, which already received a visit of Travis Pastrana to check the progress and layout.
