Caldarelli puts K-PAX on the 24 Hours of Spa pole position

It was an American pole position with an Italian touch during the Superpole of the 24 Hours of Spa, with Andrea Caldarelli imposing his superiority by a thin margin in the No. 8 K-PAX Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo he will share with Marco Mapelli and Jordan Pepper during the race weekend.

Despite the No. 777 Al Manar Mercedes being the one starting the procedures, it was Kevin Estre in the No. 221 GPX Martini Porsche that set the benchmark early with 2:16.702, and it actually took 10 minutes for the Frenchman to be beaten as Klaus Bachler set a 2:16.446 in the No. 54 Dinamic Porsche.

Despite some drivers beating the best sector times, they weren’t making it an overall improvement. Raffaele Marciello needed two laps to do so, clocking a 2:16.375 in the No. 88 Akkodis-ASP Mercedes, and it took another 10 minutes to see someone challenge Marciello’s time, when Andrea Caldarelli put the No. 8 K-PAX Lamborghini on top with 2:16.221, and with no one topping the time of the Italian driver, the session ended with two minutes to go and an American pole position.

24 Hours of Spa - Superpole results

To give an explanation on how close the Superpole was, the top 10 was within 0.6 seconds, with only Ferrari and BMW absent of the ten best, with mostly Mercedes machinery having the biggest presence. The entry that had the most benefits was the No. 777 Al Manar Mercedes, which will start in ninth with 10 cars splitting it from the second in the Silver Cup, the No. 30 WRT Audi.

The 24 Hours of Spa will start at 4:45 P.M. local time (2:45 P.M. GMT), being valid for both the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe and for the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
