Baldwin commands ESports GT Pro race at Spa

Pole and win by considerable margins, and it wasn’t like this wouldn’t be expected from James Baldwin, who was recently recruited by Garage 59 for the 24 Hours of Spa and dominated from lights to flag the FANATEC ESports GT Pro race at Spa-Francorchamps.

The more ESports driven competitors had the edge in the grid, with James Baldwin putting the No. 159 Garage 59 McLaren while Nicki Thiim had the No. 95 Beechdean Aston Martin in third, and Baldwin monopolized the top as expected, with Thiim pressing Max Hesse, eventually making the No. 50 Walkenhorst BMW open a gap and let the Dane go.

The progression of the gap that Baldwin was carrying before the pit window was kept after it, gaining roughly around a second every two laps over Thiim, and the No. 159 Garage 59 McLaren kept the gains until the finish line, winning both overall and the Silver Cup with nearly 14 seconds over the No. 95 Beechdean Aston Martin, with Thiim at least finishing the race with the Pro Cup win, while the No. 51 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Nicklas Nielsen completing the overall podium.

FANATEC ESports GT Pro - Spa-Francorchamps results

Nicki Thiim now jumps to the top of the Pro Cup standings with 11 points, while Ricardo Feller has 7 along with Max Hesse. The Silver Cup standings show Alex Aka on top with a whopping 13 points against 5 Tommaso Mosca, Jannes Fittje and James Baldwin.

The FANATEC ESports GT Pro returns during the GTWC Europe Endurance Cup weekend at Hockenheim on September 3, but with the circuit not present in Assetto Corsa Competizione, an alternative has to be considered.
