Kristoffersson confirms presence in Euro RX1 at Höljes

With the FIA World Rallycross Championship start taking more time than planned, Johan Kristoffersson will try to stay fit for the competition by competing even more, as the four time World RX champion will join the FIA Euro RX1 Championship grid at Höljes, the second round of the 2022 season.

As per usual, he will go with the family team, and Kristoffersson Motorsport didn’t ease out effort for this round just because they are building the new RX1e spec models, aligning a Volkswagen Polo RX for Johan but also for Gustav Bergström, who stepped up into the supercar class during the current RallyX Nordic season as part of a three car effort for the Swedish team.

Counting out the seasons when the World RX and Euro RX competed as one event but had separate standings, this is the first time since 2013 that Kristoffersson competes in a standalone European event, and it all started at Höljes, though onboard a black Volkswagen Scirocco RX, and as for European events outright, he is absent of one of these since the 2014 Franciacorta RX that he won in Euro RX, but was fifth in World RX, with the same VW Polo that received upgrades here and there to overcome the almost 10 years of action.

Kristoffersson would appear at any rallycross event with a target in his car, and for Höljes this will be even more emphasized since he comes from a clean sweep in the RallyX Nordic double header at the circuit, with the second day being almost perfect if not for a third place in Q3.

Not only this can be considered impressive but he also had pretty fierce competition with Euro RX and World RX experience in his Nordic campaign to defend his title, facing Mattias Ekström, Niclas Grönholm and Anton Marklund, only to name a few.

The Höljes RX weekend is set for 3 July, and along with Kristoffersson, other high grade wildcards will be present, such as Andreas Bakkerud for EKS and Oliver Soberg for Hedströms Motorsport. A full entry list for the event is expected for the next few days.
