Oliver Solberg returns to rallycross in Euro RX1

With some time off his FIA World Rally Championship duties and the current alliance with Hyundai, a slightly more experienced Oliver Solberg is returning to rallycross for a brief participation in the FIA Euro RX1 Championship, a thing that was sneaked in between the championship's entry list announcement for the Nyirád RX opener.

Hedströms Motorsport has a Hyundai i20 RX in place in their garage, and this will be Solberg’s weapon during the Höljes RX weekend, exactly the place where he competed in rallycross for the last time, back in 2020 to open the RallyX Nordic season, with a podium being the reward at the time for the 2018 Nordic champion. The transition to the Hyundai i20 RX also means he will finally graduate from Petter’s Citroën DS3 RX, which Oliver used and abused in his early rallycross career before moving to rally.

Being third in 2017, champion in 2018 and a podium finisher in 2020 in RallyX Nordic certainly give substance to Solberg’s sentence that he is aiming nothing less than victory at the Magic Weekend, and Peter Hedström’s podium last year confirm that car and team will be what’s needed for Solberg to succeed.

It’s also confirmed that PSRX mechanics will be in place to help the Hedströms Motorsport crew in Solberg’s Hyundai, as they also return after two years away.

The Höljes RX, also known as The Magic Weekend, will be held on 3 July, counting with the World RX and FIA RX2e season starts, as well the FIA Euro RX3 Championship.
