Münnich Motorsport gets two RX1e kits for 2022

With most of the 2021 season already left behind, as the FIA Euro RX1 Championship has ended and the FIA World Rallycross Championship goes to its last venue, the teams that will be part of the 2022 grid already make their moves to establish themselves, and allinkl.com Münnich Motorsport became the second team to announce an effort for the new RX1e era that’s about to come.

Of the 14 kits that KREISEL Electric affirmed that are already reserved, the question is how this number is split between the teams, and Münnich Motorsport opted to get two of them for 2022, which adds to the three already with Kristoffersson Motorsport, so nearly half of the kits reserved has a team name on it.

An usual presence in European competition, Münnich Motorsport competes in the World RX since its creation in 2014, although the Germans only got into it on a full time basis from 2015, sometimes switching lineups between Euro and World RX if the schedule allows it, with recent campaigns in World RX being entrusted to Timo Scheider while René Münnich and Mandie August focus on Euro RX.

2021 was the most special season for the German team, as its sixth season with the SEAT Ibiza Cupra RX was blessed with an Euro RX1 win at Lohéac for René Münnich in excellent form, while one-off driver Mattias Ekström, who is an official CUPRA driver, nearly scored a World RX podium with the Spanish machine. Despite missing out the Riga RX and calling it a day early at Spa, Münnich was sixth in the Euro RX1 standings, only behind names with as much World RX experience as him if not more.

While both CUPRA and Allinkl.com Münnich Motorsport have their touring car activities outside rallycross in separate fronts, an allegiance between the two companies doesn’t seem to be happening in 2022, though with CUPRA clearly aiming to develop electric machinery, they may take advantage of the new RX1e regulations in World RX.

And although there are hints of the 2022 lineup, it is still pending an announcement from the team, as well the destination of the trio of internal combustion cars, although they can also be converted to RX1e specification.
