K-PAX dominates GTWC America weekend at Sebring

The Sebring International Raceway was new in the FANATEC GT World Challenge America calendar, while also being known for a number of racers in the series, but the thing that didn’t change was K-PAX Racing in total domination mode with the pair of wins for the No. 3 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo of Andrea Caldarelli and Jordan Pepper in what was the last sprint weekend of the season.

Repeating the scenario from Watkins Glen, while the No. 3 K-PAX Lamborghini was on smooth sailing, the No. 6 was suffering pressure from the No. 9 TR3 Lamborghini, and Giovanni Venturini eventually conceded after a bad late braking due to steering issues near the 30 minute mark.

Not even the pit window could make any difference in the overall order, with the No. 3 having enough of a gap to get ahead of the field after the service, which left the No. 9 TR3 Lamborghini sitting idle in second while Jan Heylen in the No. 20 Wright Porsche fought for glory in the Pro-Am Cup, having Dakota Dickerson coming hot in the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura and gaining on the Belgian.

While Pepper ran straight to the overall win with no opposition, Heylen found the No. 9 in a critical moment near the end, and Heylen found himself attacking and defending at the same time. Which the difficulty to overtake Dennis Lind hurt Heylen badly, Dickerson was at the worst end of the battle, as a late move saw the No. 93 overshoot the hairpin and let the No. 20 with the Pro-Am Cup win, and also with the third place overall.

Race 2 had the No. 20 Wright Porsche going away with the lead in another typical Jan Heylen run, while in the middle of the field things took an undesirable turn for the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura, as a multi-car beef sent the No. 77 Compass Acura into its direction, and then the No. 93 was thrown off track, although Dakota Dickerson was quick to recover from the bad moment.

Despite having the overall lead for the whole first half, the No. 20’s fight wasn’t exactly with the Pro Cup competition, so Jan Heylen extended his drive time as usual to keep the Pro-Am Cup with Wright Motorsport when Fred Poordad jumps in, and any remaining gap the No. 20 had was nullified by a yellow flag after a heavy shunt for the No. 23 Triarsi Ferrari.

Trying to get out of the way of the Pros, Fred Poordad created a problem to himself, going down to fourth in Pro-Am Cup with the No. 20 as everybody was finding gaps to overtake, which let the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura get the class lead, as further ahead the No. 3 K-PAX Lamborghini almost saw the No. 33 Winward Mercedes be a threat, but once Andrea Caldarelli got in his pace, he was unreachable for the rest of the race, leaving the No. 33 as prey for the No. 9 TR3 Lamborghini and the No. 6 K-PAX Lamborghini, which didn’t succeed in shaking off the Mercedes.

The Pro-Am Cup was another good show from the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura, as the recovery from the early contact paid off as an overall top-5, with the No. 61 AF Corse Ferrari won the Am Cup.

Both K-PAX and Wright Motorsport will go to Indianapolis way more comfortable, with the drivers titles secured in both the Pro Cup and the Pro-Am Cup. K-PAX also has the Pro Cup teams title, and Wright is in an excellent position to be the Pro-Am Cup champion team on 17 October, as the first three hours of the Indianapolis 8 Hour, also valid for the Intercontinental GT Challenge, count points for GTWC America.
