Tomita wins ESports GT Pro race at Nürburgring

WRT
’s Ryuichiro Tomita is an avid sim racer, and he proved his prowess in the virtual world by winning comfortably the FANATEC ESports GT Pro round at Nürburgring, while a Pro Cup win was enough for Emil Frey’s Arthur Rougier to secure the class title.

It was an all-WRT front row with Dries Vanthoor and Ryuichiro Tomita, and with the Belgian opting to play it safe, the Japanese took the lead and left Vanthoor to deal with the rest of the field, more specifically with third placed Arthur Rougier.

With Vanthoor following Tomita closely, the WRT Audis were protecting themselves from the opposition, although Rougier wasn’t exactly in position to make a move for either the Pro Cup lead or the overall lead. Due to some mistakes along the way, Vanthoor lost contact with Tomita and became Rougier’s prey, quickly losing second position, and David Pittard decided to join the party and take third place in the process.

Pit strategies were varied during the window, with Tomita going as late as possible to avoid facing traffic, and this worked wonders for the No. 31 WRT Audi, with 10 seconds separating Tomita from Rougier, but since Rougier was the Pro Cup leader, his worries should go towards Pittard and Matt Campbell, who were just behind the No. 114 Emil Frey Lamborghini.

With the top two secure in their class leads, Rougier opted to keep it clean and safe, what allowed Tomita to extend the gap and win the race overall.

Arthur Rougier was crowned Pro Cup champion as Daniel Juncadella wasn’t present in the No. 88 AKKA-ASP Mercedes, making it 9 points against 5 from Pittard, and in the Silver Cup, the No. 33 Rinaldi Ferrari trio leads with 7 points against 6 from Tomita and 5 from Ezequiel Perez Companc, meaning it is game on for the final round during the Barcelona Endurance Cup weekend on 10 October.
