Garage 59 will field Pro Cup car at 24H of Spa

Another manufacturer joins the battle for the 24 Hours of Spa at the top class, with Garage 59 securing a Pro Cup Aston Martin machine to take on the regular powers with a established lineup.

This third Aston Martin AMR Vantage GT3 will be a special third entry for Garage 59, only confirmed for the Spa-Francorchamps classic, but its status as the team’s leading entry is confirmed by the lineup chosen for this one-off, consisting of Aston Martin factory drivers Nicki Thiim, Marco Sørensen and Ross Gunn, who come from different places after being part of both Aston Martin entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship last season. Along the Pro Cup car, the season regular entries will be in the Silver Cup and Pro-Am Cup.

Thiim and Sørensen actually have a long time chemistry in Aston Martin’s LMGTE machines, being part of what’s nicknamed the Dane Train and racing together from 2015 to 2020 in FIA WEC, be it with Young Driver AMR or Aston Martin themselves running the entry. With only a single entry in the LMGTE-Am class and the LMGTE-Pro program axed, the Danish boys are taking their own routes, with Thiim participating of several programs with Phoenix Racing while Sørensen is actually returning to racing at Spa.

Gunn is actually the only one still active in Aston Martin machinery, with his schedule split between LMGTE and GT3 Vantages in the European Le Mans Series and the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, with a class podium at the 12 Hours of Sebring as his best result.

Garage 59 is no stranger to GT World Challenge Europe’s top class, with its last Pro Cup entry dating back from 2019 along with the mammoth effort from R-Motorsport, with a ninth place at Monza as its best result, while that year’s 24 Hours of Spa was one to forget as the team retired.

The 24 Hours of Spa, valid for the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe and also the first round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, will be held on 31 July and 1 August.
