Kristoffersson wins RallyX Nordic Sunday event at Nysum

Although it was a tight contest, Johan Kristoffersson proved why he is an ace driver in rallycross, winning with authority the second event of the Nysum double header that opened the RallyX Nordic season.

In a qualifying that presented way more contact and aggressiveness than Saturday, Johan Kristoffersson prevailed with a bit more ease, winning two of the three sessions while having Fraser McConnell in second and Sondre Evjen hot on the heels of the Jamaican in third. Ulrik Linemann was the only one to break Kristoffersson’s winning streak, but a problematic qualifying put the Danish only in fourth, with the same erratic runs also affecting Enzo Ide, who was fifth.

Semifinal 1 started with Kristoffersson leaving the outside to McConnell like he did in the qualifying, and while Morten Schnack tried to slot between them, it lasted until a spin near the Joker, and while the fight was down to Kristoffersson and McConnell, the Jamaican didn’t gain enough to mount an attack, although it was a close finish. Andreas Carlsson was in a race of his own for third place since Magnus Dall and Schnack himself had troubled runs.

The second Semifinal was more like to define the Final grid, as Ulrik Linnemann and Dennis Romer were missing, meaning that Sondre Evjen just carried his lead against Enzo Ide and Mattias Andersson. Evjen did more like a modest paced demo run, because Ide was black flagged for avoidable contact with Andersson, and Andersson parked with mechanical problems. With the absences, retirements and exclusions, Evjen was actually the only one qualified for the Final.

The Final carried on with Kristoffersson keeping the inside line while Evjen and McConnell were competing for who will be meddling with the Swede for first place, in which McConnell took the position as Evjen went early for the Joker.

Kristoffersson was superior to McConnell and just had to go get the checkered flag, while McConnell had to give Evjen a brief display of his car control to get second place, so Evjen had to settle for the final podium spot on track, but with bumper to bumper contact in the final corners, Evjen swapped positions with McConnell and got promoted to second place.

Kristoffersson leaves Nysum with 56 points against 50 of Evjen and 48 of McConnell, while Andreas Carlsson is the immediate outsider in the title fight with 40 points, but it’s still unknown if the current leader will be able to appear at the second double header of the season, which will be held at Höljes on 15 and 16 May.
