Sprint Cup opener moves to Magny-Cours as Brands Hatch round is postponed

With a long time until the opening of the 2021 FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe season, the calendar has taken the first hit as the only British round scheduled will be postponed.

Brands Hatch was set welcome the GT3s from SRO on 1 and 2 May, but following the release of a roadmap from March to June by the British parliament, the organization led by Stéphane Ratel opted for its postponement. According to other media reports, the roadmap launched in late February could see the economy in UK open gradually and social interaction restrictions to be lifted in a four stage strategy, to a point where everything would be open on 21 June, which is around the time when it's expected that the whole population would have taken the vaccine against the COVID-19.

While no specifics were given, the postponement could be to gauge the possibility of bringing spectators to the event, along with giving a safer ambient to all personal involved, and although this looks like a lot of good news, the dates specified are set goals for the roadmap, and they can be altered depending on the advance of the virus control in the UK, so an extension of the plan can be considered.

With the Brands Hatch round moved, Magny-Cours will open the Sprint Cup season, set for 8 and 9 May, if no further changes are brought in.

The full FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe season and the Endurance Cup will start on 16 April at Monza.
