Iron Lynx comes in double to GTWC Europe

After dedicating its schedule only to ACO-sanctioned competitions, Iron Lynx Motorsport Lab not only moves to GT3 spec racing, but also does it in double and with stacked lineups for the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe.

There will be a pair of Ferrari 488 GT3 Evos at disposal for the Andrea Piccini led squad, both to compete in the Endurance Cup as Pro Cup entries. Iron Lynx didn't measure efforts to bring together the strongest lineups possible, taking advantage of the list of GT factory drivers and a name from the driver academy, that's usually more focused in developing open wheel drivers.

The No. 51 Ferrari will count with three names well versed in GT racing, as Ferrari's long standing member Alessandro Pier Guidi will have the company of Nicklas Nielsen and the versatile Côme Ledogar. All three have a good amount of experience in Ferrari machinery and the 488 GT3 specifically, with good results backing them, so this is expected to be their leading car in the campaign.

The lineup of the No. 71 Ferrari will have a bit more experimentation, as Davide Rigon leads Antonio Fuoco, who drove for SMP Racing in 2020, and F2 star Callum Ilott, who jumps into sportscar racing from just one step below F1, a common move for a number of drivers during their youth.

Unlike his team mates, Rigon left F2 (at the time called GP2) almost a decade ago, becoming of the powerhouses in the Ferrari factory lineup, with four wins at the Gulf 12 Hours and a runner-up finish in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in 2019 under his belt. Fuoco left open wheel racing from the F2 in 2017, but his Italian GT title confirms his transition to GT racing is in a good way. Ilott is doing this transition this year, and Rigon and Fuoco’s experience will certainly help in the transition, as it was the case with the Russian Sergei Sirotkin, who raced with them in SMP Racing last year.

The 2021 FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe season will start on 18 April with the Endurance Cup round at Monza.
