Racers Edge stays in GTWC America with HPD Academy talent

Racers Edge Motorsports
, probably the team that enjoyed the most dominant run in an SRO series in 2020, reaffirmed its commitment to the FANATEC GT World Challenge America, making considerable changes compared to the winning team of the last season.

The No. 93 Acura NSX GT3 Evo will stay in action for Joe Mirachi’s team, although with the demise of the Silver Cup after only one season, the car will move to the Pro-Am Cup with an entirely new lineup, based totally in the HPD GT3 Driver Academy. The drivers who will compete in the No. 93 will be Taylor Hagler, Jacob Abel and Dakota Dickerson, who come from this kind of a junior program, having spent the whole 2020 being tested within the Academy, and with the track knowledge of the Acura NSX GT3 Evo, they’ll use it in a competitive scenario.

While none of the trio has competitive GT3 experience, they have their mileage in their respective backgrounds, with Dickerson being the most all-rounded of the team, as her resume comprises open wheel, GT4, TCR and prototype racing. Abel is coming from a past dedicated to open wheel racing in the Road to Indy program, while Hagler is a dedicated touring car racer, jumping from Michelin Pilot Challenge’s TCR class.

Hagler will be the full season driver of the entry, while Dickerson and Abel will be in rotation during the season, which gives the opportunity to Racers Edge and HPD to evaluate almost all combinations possible and the development of the drivers.

The HPD graduates jump in quite the victorious car, as the No. 93 had Shelby Blackstock and Trent Hindman scoring five pole positions in 2020, along with five overall wins as the only full time Silver Cup entry. The team also had a part-time Pro-Am Cup entry in the No. 80 Acura with Martin Barkey , Kyle Marcelli and Ziad Gandhour, which also scored an overall win at Virginia, which wasn’t announced to return until the moment.

The 2021 FANATEC GT World Challenge America season will start on 6 and 7 March at Sonoma Raceway.
