All-out attack for AKKA-ASP in GTWC Europe

With some changes inside AKKA-ASP and in the Mercedes factory roster, the team led by Jérôme Policand decided to go on full power to the 2021 season of the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe, while keeping the numbers from 2020.

The 2021 season for AKKA-ASP will be spent on the Pro Cup, keeping the pair of Mercedes AMG GT3 Evos that competed in 2020 but raising the class of the No. 89 car, which competed in the Silver Cup last year but saw Benjamin Hites move away to race for Rinaldi Racing, while the the Endurance Cup-only No. 87 Pro-Am Cup car isn't confirmed.

The No. 88 machine, a title contender in 2020, will keep Raffaele Marciello and Timur Boguslavskiy for the Sprint Cup, trying to improve from their runner-up finish last year, but for the Endurance Cup appear the highlights of the lineups, with Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon, recently included in the Mercedes driver roster, completing the power trio.

The No. 89 car is confirmed for the sprint races at the moment, having Gounon and Petru Umbrarescu, with the Romanian driver simply moving inside France, as he drove for CMR in one of their Bentley Continental GT3s last season.

While Juncadella is already a known name returning home to Mercedes after a brief spell with Aston Martin in DTM, Gounon comes with a level of variety under his belt that would cause envy to most drivers, having competed in seven different GT3 models, achieving success with the Callaway Corvette C7-GT3R and more recently with the Bentley Continental GT3, from where the Frenchman came after being release by the Crewe manufacturer.

The 2021 season of the FANATEC GT World Challenge Europe will start on  18 April with the return of the 3 Hours of Monza as the traditional season opener of the Endurance Cup, while the Sprint Cup will kick off two weeks later, on 1 and 2 May at Brands Hatch, also returning to the calendar after missing the 2020 season.
